The Millie’s Princess Foundation

The Millie’s Princess Foundation started with one little girl, Millie Flamm. Millie was diagnosed with Leukemia when she was 5 years old. Millie’s neighbors wanted to do something to show their support and raise money for Millie’s battle, so they organized the first Millie’s Princess Run.

The event was a huge success and the Millie’s Princess Foundation was then established. A second run was being planned for the following year to benefit other families with children fighting cancer and Millie was very excited to attend. Unfortunately, one week before the second run, Millie lost her three-and-a-half-year battle with Leukemia and passed away in June of 2013.

The foundation now holds an annual Millie’s Princess Run each June, and continually seeks for opportunities to raise funds and hope for children fighting cancer and their families.

“we are so grateful to be able to honor her as our princess this year.”

Samantha Corey

Samantha is 17 years old and a senior in high school. She loves to play volleyball, draw, paint, play games, and go camping and fishing.

When Samantha was 15 years old, she was preparing to get her driver’s license and get her first job, but her life changed forever. In the spring of 2022, she was diagnosed with a rare cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma, which is a cancer of the soft muscle tissue. She endured one year of chemotherapy and 33 rounds of radiation. This past May, only a few months after finishing her treatments, she found out that her cancer had come back, terminally.

Samantha decided to start weekly chemotherapy again to slow down the growth of the cancer for as long as possible.

Through this journey she has shown a tremendous amount of strength, courage, and faith. She is an incredible example and light to those around her, and we are so grateful to be able to honor her as our princess this year.

Walking for Gold

By Brady Hamilton

When the phrase “Walking for Gold” gets tossed out, the first thing you may think of is models dressed in elegant shades of that metallic shade – but it’s a phrase that embodies much more than that. It’s something much more meaningful and profound. This is a fashion show that’s associated with the “Millie’s Princess Foundation”. Most recently, “Walking for Gold” had its 4th-annual event to honor Millie, an inspiring 8-year-old who passed away from cancer.

Millie had the spirit – and drive – to become a fashion designer. She sketched the designs she wanted to create. That’s auspicious and motivating for an adult, let alone an 8-year-old. At the event, we were all blessed with the opportunity to see Millie's work come to life on the catwalk, with each design showcasing a colorful and robust array of beautiful threads stitched together with a regal energy. These designs should live on forever because they're classy and fun, much like something that you would have seen on the show “The Nanny.”

What I loved most about this show was the impact and legacy. In honor of Millie, this show, in association with the foundation, seeks to help children and families impacted by cancer diagnoses. I most definitely loved seeing a community come and support those in need – something much needed in today’s world. It is definitely a show worthy of our continued support … and one that I’m excited to see next time.
