Beat the Brittle!

A Healthy How-To for Winter Hair

If April is the cruelest month, then winter is the cruelest season … at least for our hair.

Winter can leave hair dry, brittle, and prone to damage. The combination of frigid temperatures, indoor heating, and winds can strip moisture from your hair, resulting in an unmanageable and lackluster mane. With that said, however, a few adjustments to your hair-care routine will maintain healthy, nourished locks – even during the coldest months.

Push Pause on Heat Styling:

Excessive heat from blow dryers, curling irons, and straighteners depletes your hair's moisture levels, increasing dryness and brittleness. Embrace your natural texture by allowing your hair to air dry whenever possible, minimizing heat exposure. If you must use heat styling tools, use a heat protectant spray to protect your locks from damage.

Embrace Your Natural Texture: Why fight “winter hair” when you can embrace it? Winter can be a great time to experiment with styles that accentuate your hair's natural texture. Rather than subjecting your hair to daily styling, embrace the opportunity to rock gorgeous waves, curls, or even a slicked-back look. This minimizes stress on your hair and helps retain your hair's moisture.

Invest in Quality Moisturizing Products:

Choosing the right hair-care products is crucial for combating winter-induced dryness. Opt for a sulfate-free shampoo, as sulfates can strip your hair of its natural oils. Look for moisturizing conditioners and deep-conditioning masks. One of my favorites is K18. The K18 Mask's formula is infused with moisture-locking ingredients that replenish dry and brittle hair, providing deep hydration from within.

Don't Skip Haircuts:

Trimming your hair regularly during winter helps eliminate split ends, which can worsen as a result of cold weather and dry indoor heat. Schedule regular haircuts every 6-8 weeks to maintain healthy ends and overall hair health

Don’t forget to drink lots of water:

Lack of proper hydration can make your hair brittle, dry, and more prone to breakage. Keeping yourself well-hydrated helps maintain healthy hair growth and strength.

Winter can be wearying, but why not embrace it? Hopefully these tips can help you get creative with your cold-weather hair care routines.
